Welcome to Legal and Compliance Services

Legal and Compliance Services provide a key function in the central academic administration of the University. Led by the Head of Legal and Compliance Services & Secretary, they are responsible for:

  • Governance: University constitution and principal decision-making bodies (Board of Governors, Academic Board and SLT) and processes;
  • Information Compliance: matters relating to data protection, data subject access, freedom of information requests and records management;
  • Policies: Oversight of the framework for policy document and regulation development/management;
  • Regulatory Compliance: primary contact for compliance with the requirements of the OfS as the principal regulator for higher education in England and for the institution’s free speech duties.
  • Resilience via Risk Management, Business Continuity and Incident Management;
  • Student Contention: handling matters on concern relating to students such as complaints, academic appeals and student misconduct.

  • Information Compliance (Data Protection, Records Management);
  • The University’s Framework for Policy Document and Regulations Development/Management;
  • Risk Management, Business Continuity and Incident Management;
  • Handling matters of Student Contention (such as Complaints, Academic Appeals and Student Misconduct).
